Trade and logistics centers of Wildberries international company to open in Kazakhstan

Wednesday, 28 August 2019, 18:30:30

During a working visit to Kazan, Prime Minister Askar Mamin met with Tatyana Bakalchuk, general director of the leading Russian international online store, Wildberries.

At the meeting, plans and prospects for cooperation between the Astana International Financial Center and the Wildberries on the development of electronic commerce in Kazakhstan were discussed. Following the meeting, Tatyana was awarded a certificate of registration of Wildberries as a member of the AIFC, and a Memorandum of Understanding was signed.

In an interview for Primeminister.kz, Bakalchuk told in more detail about the implementation of the investment project for the construction of trade and logistics centers and the promotion of Kazakhstani producers at the Wildberries website.

— We want to build two trade and logistics centers with an area of approximately 50 thousand square meters in Nur-Sultan and Almaty. We plan to build two centers, because we are operating on the Kyrgyz market, and in the future, we plan to enter the market of Uzbekistan. It will be very convenient for us to logistically work in Kazakhstan with these countries. Our team has already left there, we are building quickly. I think that after about 2 years, these logistics centers will be able to operate at full capacity.

— What are your expectations from the implementation of the investment project? Will the centers become a single online platform for Kazakhstan producers?

— For me, this project with Kazakhstan is personally important. I want it to be 100% complete. We would really like for him to become the flagship of the Kazakhstan Internet space, we will try to make every effort to do this. All possibilities and conditions for this exist.

— In your opinion, how actively is e-commerce developing in Kazakhstan?

— In early summer, we visited the AIFC, where we met with other sites. As our colleagues told us, the market is now developing rapidly, there are already several dozen Internet sites, there are quite large local players. In general, I think that all over the world and, in particular, in the territory of the Customs Union, the internet market is now developing even faster than in other countries. Probably because we started later.

— Today, the internet is rapidly capturing almost all spheres of human activity. What is the future of online trading in the next 10 years? Will e-commerce supersede traditional commerce?

— First of all, it is sold that does not require special storage conditions and that it is convenient for people to order via the internet. Offline trading will continue to develop, but in a slightly different direction. Already now it is clear that shopping centers are changing their type of activity. Attention is paid to entertaining content and a pleasant pastime; conditions for family leisure are created.

I think that the market will move in accordance with the wishes of the consumer. If it is more convenient for him to order everything online, then it will be so. But there will always be things that will exist only through traditional trade, that is, there will definitely not be a complete transition to online trading.

— Wildberries has reached an impressive scale. How did you manage to achieve such success by opening a business from scratch? What is your key to success?

— First of all, in any business you need to work hard. The key to success is hard work, love for what you are doing and reliable associates.

— Thank you for the interview!

Wildberries is the largest online retailer in the EAEU countries, operating on the market for 16 years. The geography of the company’s presence covers five countries: Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia. Over the years, Wildberries has reached impressive numbers: over 15 thousand brands, more than 30 million goods in stock, more than 400 thousand orders per day.
