Kazakhstan starts vaccination of three thousand volunteers with domestic QazCovid-in vaccine

Prime Minister Askar Mamin visited the Research Institute for Biological Safety Problems of the Ministry of Education and Science in the village of Gvardeisky, Korday district, Zhambyl region.

To date, the research institute have conducted phase I and II clinical trials of the domestic vaccine QazCovid-in. Preliminary research results demonstrate high safety, immunogenicity and efficacy of the vaccine at 96%.

The ministry of healthcare has approved the start of the final phase III clinical trials on 3,000 volunteers. Today, the first volunteers were vaccinated with the domestic vaccine at the research institute and clinics in Almaty and Taraz. By the end of December 2020, the vaccination of three thousand volunteers will be completed. For phase III, the required batch of vaccine in the amount of 10 thousand doses will be produced.

“Mass vaccination with the domestic vaccine will begin in March 2021. First of all, medical workers, teachers, as well as representatives of risk groups with chronic diseases will be vaccinated on a voluntary basis,” Mamin said.

The prime minister got acquainted with the construction of a biopharmaceutical plant for the production of vaccines. Construction work is proceeding according to the schedule. The plant is scheduled to be commissioned in March 2021. The production capacity will be 60 million doses per year.

The head of government emphasized the importance of further development and modernization of the material and technical base of the Research Institute for Biological Safety Problems to ensure the domestic production of immunobiological drugs, including vaccines against coronavirus infection.

The prime minister visited the construction site of three houses with 180 apartments for research workers of the research institute. The first house with 60 apartments will be commissioned in January 2021.
