Government considers issues of mass sports development 

Deputy Prime Minister Yeraly Tugzhanov chaired a videoconference meeting on the development of mass sports. The meeting was attended by the leadership of central government bodies, deputy akims of the regions, the National Olympic Committee.

“The Head of State Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich, in his Address to the people of Kazakhstan, paid special attention to the development of mass sports. During the pandemic, it is important to develop this direction to improve health,” said Yeraly Tugzhanov.

Today, 30.6% of the country's population is involved in sports and physical education. At the same time, it was noted that the lowest coverage in the country is noted in Shymkent (28.5%), Nur-Sultan (29.2%) and Akmola region (29.8%).

Also at the meeting, the issues of financial support for mass sports, the development of specific steps to popularize sports among the population, and the provision of qualified instructors and gyms were discussed.

Particular attention is paid to the issues of involving children and youth in sports sections, the shortage of gyms and equipment in secondary schools.

Following the meeting, Yeraly Tugzhanov gave specific instructions to state bodies, including on the legislative strengthening of the coordinating role of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, to increase the share of citizens involved in sports, to reduce spending on professional clubs in favor of financing mass sports, to solve the deficit of gyms and equipment in schools. Also, akimats of the regions were instructed to take under special control the construction of sports and recreation complexes and complete them by the end of 2020.
