At a government conference call chaired by Prime Minister Askar Mamin, the results of the country's socio-economic development and the implementation of the republican budget for January-April 2020 were considered. Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development Beibut Atamkulov reported on the development of the industrial sector.

In January-April 2020 in all manufacturing sectors, there is a positive trend. In the mining sector, non-ferrous ore production increased by 3.4% due to an increase in the production of gold-bearing ore.

The growth of iron ore production amounted to 15.8% through the reorientation of sales markets from traditional to Chinese markets. In the future, the monthly volume of shipment will be up to 700 thousand tons of iron ore. The volumes of coal and lignite production amounted to 102.1%.

In the manufacturing industry, growth was 7% due to metallurgy, pharmaceuticals, light industry, engineering, etc. In ferrous metallurgy, the IPF amounted to 100.1%.

In the chemical industry, production increased by 0.3% due to an increase in production at KazAzot JSC by ammonium nitrate by 27% and ammonia by 171% due to stabilization of the level of production capacity after the modernization.

As Atamkulov informed, in the machine-building industry the volume of production grew by 25.4%. The volumes of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers increased by 59.2%, machinery and equipment by 15.6%, electrical equipment by 11.4%, production of other vehicles by 103.9%, repair and installation of machinery and equipment by 5, 7%, computer production by 7.6%.

“In the pharmaceutical industry, output grew by 24.2%. In light industry, production increased by 13.9% due to an increase in the production of textiles by 13.4%, leather and related products by 12.4% and clothing by 11.3%,” the minister said.

The volume index for the transport industry in January-April 2020 amounted to 89%.

“Due to the situation with the coronavirus pandemic in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan, passenger bus services (including city passenger bus services), passenger trains, regular air services have been suspended. Closing quarantine of some enterprises also affects transport and logistics, as they reduce the volume of deliveries and orders for transportation,” Atamkulov noted.

It should be noted that the total volume of container traffic through Kazakhstan increased by 12% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 211.6 thousand TEU (twenty-foot equivalent).

The volume index for construction in January-April 2020 amounted to 105.5%. Positive dynamics are observed in 13 regions. The leaders are Turkistan (128.7%), Karaganda (125.5%), Akmola (118.9%), Atyrau (114.7%) and West Kazakhstan (111.6%) regions.

According to the results of January-April 2020, 3,112.5 thousand square meters were commissioned for housing construction, which is 89.9% of the same period in 2019.

As the minister emphasized, in connection with the introduction of sanitary and epidemiological measures in the country, there is a decrease in the commissioning of individual and multi-apartment residential buildings. The volume of housing commissioned by the annual plan was 22.1%.

A total of 24,884 houses were commissioned in the republic. An increase in housing commissioning compared to last year is noted in 10 regions. Leaders in housing commissioning are Almaty, Zhambyl regions.
