Alikhan Smailov participates in Second Eurasian Congress

The Second Eurasian Congress was held in Moscow on Dec. 2. The Congress is a platform for open dialogue between representatives of government authorities, business, scientific and expert communities on the most pressing issues of the development of the Eurasian region, as well as cooperation between countries in order to improve the well-being and development of national economies.

Speaking about priority projects for Kazakhstan, First Deputy Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov said that it is important for our country, as an EDB shareholder, that the bank finances the economy through the prism of integration development. He recalled that the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, within the framework of Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the EAEU bodies this year, outlined several priority areas in which it is necessary to strengthen work, one of them is industrial cooperation.

Alikhan Smailov noted that the EDB has a powerful potential to give impetus to this work. The document "Main directions of industrial cooperation until 2025" was adopted, which outlines the key areas of cooperation. These are projects in the field of mechanical engineering, aircraft construction, space technologies, chemical and pharmaceutical industries.

Another area is transport and logistics cooperation.

“And here we welcome the work of the EDB to create a common commodity distribution system. This is important given our vast territories and the low level of development of logistics systems, the need to reduce transport costs. This is also important from the point of view of export development and food security. The Eurasian Development Bank has great opportunities to stimulate our business, create joint projects, joint products with high added value, in order to provide, first of all, their economies in food and non-food products. And go out with this for export," Smailov emphasized.

In turn, the Chair of the Board of the Eurasian Development Bank Nikolai Podguzov noted that according to the forecasts of the EDB analysts, economic growth in Kazakhstan is expected at the level of 4.2%-5.3%, and this will be the highest GDP growth rate in the EAEU.
