Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin visits National Center for Biotechnology

Prime Minister Askar Mamin visited the National Center for Biotechnology in Nur-Sultan, where he got acquainted with the development of science, research and technical programs and applied projects in Kazakhstan.

The head of the Government examined the laboratory block, where the promising developments of the center in the field of medical, agricultural, environmental biotechnologies, food and processing industries, as well as the possibilities for their further implementation in the country's economy were presented.

The capital's biotechnology center has 14 different laboratories, where research is carried out in the fields of genetic engineering, immunology, stem cells, human tissue regeneration, environmental biotechnology, and pharmacology.

The Director General of the National Center for Biotechnology Yerlan Ramankulov reported that several significant research projects have been developed by the center’s specialists.

During the visit, the heads of Stem Cells Laboratory Vyacheslav Ogay, Shared Laboratory — Elena Zholdybaeva, Plant Genetic Engineering — Shuga Manabayeva, Human Genetics — Maxat Zhabagin presented the results of studies in the field of genomics, human genetics and its pathogens, genetics of domestic animals, as well as in the latest field of science — genomic editing. Among them are cell preparations for the treatment of burns, new varieties of wheat and potatoes, vaccines for diseases, drugs, medicines and therapeutic and prophylactic drugs.

Following the inspection of the center, Prime Minister Askar Mamin ordered to continue developing applied projects and strengthen measures to commercialize scientific results. Special attention must be paid to the training of qualified personnel.
