Askar Umarov

 

Askar Umarov was born in 1976 in Almaty. He graduated from Turan University.

He began his career in 1997 as a leading specialist in the sector of socio-economic problems of the Republican Scientific Center for Cultural Problems.

In 1998-1999, he was a marketing specialist in the magazine ‘Small Business of Kazakhstan’.

In 2001-2005, he was a correspondent for RG Novosti Nedeli LLP.

In 2005-2006, he was the editor-in-chief of the Almaty Bureau of the Directorate of Information and Analytical Programs of the branch of JSC RTRK Kazakhstan - Astana RTC.

Over the years, he has held senior positions in private organizations.

In 2008-2010, he was director, Deputy General Director of Nur-Media LLP.

In 2011-2013, he was Vice President of the NJSC Turkic Academy.

In 2014, he worked as Managing Director of NC Astana EXPO-2017 JSC.

In 2016-2017, he was President of the public fund.

In 2017-2020, he was General Director of MIA Kazinform LLP.

From January 2020 to August 2021, he was Chair of the Board of JSC MIA Kazinform.

From August 2021 to January 2022, he was Vice Minister of Information and Social Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

By the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev dated Jan. 11, 2022, he was appointed Minister of Information and Social Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
